HOW WILL WE LEARN?  
In this virtual event for educators facilitated by Kelly Eisenbraun, Library Director, Technologist, Curriculum Coach, you will engage in breakout sessions with authors to help empower your students to uncover exciting connections in their learning. You will explore strategies to help your students become stronger and more motivated readers and writers. Participants will walk away with a curated list of titles and practical strategies to put into practice in the classroom or library.

Breakout sessions feature:

Connecting Teachers & Authors, Erica Perl
Erica Perl is the author of middle-grade novels, picture books, chapter books, early readers, plays, articles, and more. Her books have received many awards and accolades, including the National Jewish Book Award, and three Sydney Taylor Medals (one silver, two bronze). They've also landed on State Book Award lists, “Best Books” lists, the Pride and Less Prejudice book list, and many library lists. Her co-authored book with Dolly Parton releases on 4.25.23, the day before our event.  

 

Bridging the Gap with MEMOIR Writing & Reading, Lesley Roessing
Lesley Roessing is an author, Blogger, and literacy consultant.  She is a  former Middle Grades teacher with experience as a Writing Project director, Journal editor, and AMLE Magazinecolumnist.  Roessing is the author of professional development books, including Talking Texts and Write to Read.  She has a passion for connecting writing and reading.

The Power of the Read-aloud, Dr. Mark West
Dr. Mark West is the recipient of the Governor James E. Holshouser Jr. Award for Excellence in Public Service, given by the UNC System Board of Governors. West was also the recipient of the UNC Charlotte Bonnie Cone Professorship in Civic Engagement in 2019 and the Anne Devereaux Jordan Award for Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Literature, the most prestigious honor given in his field.  West is the author/editor of 16 books and teaches children's and young adult literature at UNC-Charlotte.
